Constitution Square (Montevideo)

The Plaza de la Constitución, also known as Plaza Matriz, is a place in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo.

It is located in the Barrio Ciudad Vieja. South in the Plaza de la Constitución leads past the main street of the neighborhood, the pedestrian Calle Sarandi. In the early years of the history of the then fortified town of San Felipe y Santiago de Montevideo was located there since 1726 at that time topographically highest point of the central Montevideo, bearing the name of Plaza Mayor square of the city.
