Constitutionalist Liberal Party

The Partido Liberal Constitucionalista (PLC) is a liberal party in Nicaragua. It was founded in 1984 as the successor organization of the Partido Liberal Nacionalista which served the Somoza clan for his dictatorship as a vehicle. The party's history indicates the predecessor organization, the Movimiento Liberal Constitucionalista ( MLC) Ramiro Sacasa Guerrero ( a labor minister under Anastasio Somoza García ). It participated in the Unión Nacional Opositora coalition whose common presidential candidate of choice on February 25, 1990, Violeta Barrios de Chamorro. In the presidential elections of 1996 the party member Arnoldo Alemán, an alliance of the Alianza Liberal had organized.

In the parliamentary elections in Nicaragua, on 4 November 2001, the Partido Liberal Constitucionalista won 53.2 % of the vote and 47 of the 90 seats in the Asamblea Nacional de Nicaragua. The PLC had from 2000 to 2007, the majority in the Asamblea Nacional de Nicaragua. As a member of the Partido Liberal Constitucionalista Enrique Bolaños Geyer won in the presidential election in 2001 56.3 % of the vote. By 2005, the PLC was a member of Liberal International. Party Chairman is Jorge Castillo Quant.

In 2004, Enrique Bolaños Geyer with dissidents from the PLC and the Partido por la República Conservador the Alianza.

In 2006, Eduardo Montealegre and other dissidents of the PLC, the Alianza Liberal Nicaragüense.

Pacto

The Party honorary chairman of the PLC, Arnoldo Alemán has agreed with Daniel Ortega that to be elected President of the Republic of Nicaragua to 35 % of the votes cast sufficient. Due to the Pacto Arnoldo Alemán and Daniel Ortega, the members of the Partido Liberal Constitucionalista are involved in an intra parentes power calculus.
