Constructivist Foundations

Constructivist Foundations is a four -monthly in English, interdisciplinary academic journal that specializes in constructivist approaches in science. These include among others the radical constructivism, the enactive cognitive science, cybernetics 2nd order, the theory of autopoietic systems and the non- dualisierende philosophy.

Objectives

The Journal publishes articles empirical, formal or conceptual content, survey articles, target articles, which will be discussed publicly in comments, opinions that are written by authorities in their respective fields and book reviews.

Constructivist approaches represent the Cartesian separation between objective world and subjective experience in question and require the inclusion of the observer in scientific explanations. They reject the Repräsentationalimus and support the view that knowledge is a system-related process and not the image of the objective world. Reality is therefore constructed, that it is produced rather than passively rezipiert by the subject. This means that constructivist approaches have an agnostic relationship with reality. They focus on self-referential and organizationally closed systems that do not control their output, but their input. With regard to scientific explanations constructivist approaches favor the process- oriented approach before the substance- based perspective, so that cognitive systems are characterized by the processes by which they constitute and maintain their own organization. From science constructivist approaches require a more open and less dogmatic attitude.

So far, two special issues have appeared alongside regular issues: A Festschrift for Ernst von Glasersfeld and an output for non- dualizing philosophy Josef Mitterer. The magazine currently has around 1,800 subscribers.
