Cook Landing Site

The Cook Landing Site in Waimea on the island of Kauai Hawaii belonging to features with a plaque for the position at the mouth of the Waimea River in the Pacific, at the James Cook became the first European on January 20, 1778 to enter one of the islands of Hawaii. The exact location of the landing is today probably due to siltation further inland. In 1928 a statue of James Cook was built in memory of this event in the central square of the town of Waimea to the 250th anniversary. Nearby over the river located is the Russian fort

On 29 December 1962, the site was awarded as a National Historic Landmark. On October 15, 1966, the Cook Landing Site in the National Register of Historic Places was recorded.
