Copa Mercosur
The Copa Mercosur (pt: Copa Mercosul ) was a football club competition, which was held in the years 1998 to 2001 of südamerikaninschen continental federation CONMEBOL. Theme of the competition was the membership of the home countries of the participants in the trade pact Mercosur clubs. rsssf.com notes that the competition probably should mainly increase the TV revenue of various South American top clubs. Although there was no trade pact Merconorte, the Copa Merconorte was for the clubs of northern South America, and later to Central and North America across, parallel to the Copa Mercosur discharged.
Successor to the never particularly popular competition should be the Copa Panamericana whose Erstaustragung was postponed from 2002 to 2003 and ultimately left their place in their stead discharged Copa Sudamericana.
Mode
Participants from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay are divided into five groups of four. In league mode, the teams in home and away games compete against each other and determine the quarter finalists. The five group winners and the three best runners-up. In the Cup mode with return match of the tournament winner is determined henceforth.
