Copponex

Copponex is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Copponex is located on 576 m, about 17 kilometers north of the town of Annecy (air line). The village is located in a promising position on the Südwestfuß Salève, in the dale of the Ruisseau de la Férande ( side stream of Usses ), in Genevois.

The area of ​​9.21 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The southern boundary runs along the Usses, a left tributary of the Rhône, which flows here in a deep valley from east to west. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward to the slopes and terrain terraces on both sides of the little valley of the Ruisseau de la Férande and in the forest area Bois Chardon. History

The territory of Copponex was already inhabited in prehistoric times. In 1860 Copponex was assigned to the newly created Canton Cruseilles, previously it was part of the canton of Saint -Julien -en- Genevois.

Attractions

The village church dates from the Middle Ages, while the bell tower was increased in the 19th century.

Population

With 901 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Copponex one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population decreased continuously (1861 were still 642 residents counted in Copponex ). Since the early 1980s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Copponex is a predominantly coined by farming village today. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the area as well as in space Annecy and Geneva - Annemasse.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but transport network is still fairly well developed. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of around 10 kilometers.
