Green tree boa ( Corallus caninus )

The Emerald Tree Boa or Green tree boa ( Corallus caninus ) is a snake with a habitat in the Amazon basin of Peru, Ecuador, Brazil and Guyana countries. The habitat consists of closed, humid forests (rain forests) usually in the vicinity of water.

The Emerald Tree Boa is very closely adapted to life in trees, so are preferred as resting places of dense foliage surrounded crotches. The body is typically placed in loops over the branch and the head resting on the body. Thus the snake is almost invisible.

The snake is of strong green base color with white irregular patches and bandages on the back. On the belly color varies from dirty white to light yellow. Young animals are brick red to reddish brown at birth. A color change requires several molts, initially there arise green spots, which gradually displace the youth of color. The length is specified with 200-300 cm. All Corallus species have showy large sensory pores on the upper and lower lip ( Labialgruben ) that warm-blooded animals can be located in the dark. The Corallus caninus has very long, curved front to the back teeth that secure the successful bite by a dense bird dress. The main diet consists of small mammals in addition to birds also.
