The Corbin Building is a nine -story building in Manhattan, New York City. The former office building was designed by architect Francis H. Kimball, built in 1888 and opened in 1889. It was named after the President of the Long Iceland Railroad, Austin Corbin. It is located in 192 Broadway.

History

When erecting the building was one of the highest in the city and home to most offices. In his opening especially the penthouse was a highlight of the building. The facade consists of a mix of brick, stone and terracotta. On 18 December 2003, it was registered under number 05,001,287 in the National Register of Historic Places.

Latest developments

Under the new project, the Fulton Street Transit Center, which is located right next to the Corbin Building, planned the New York City Transit Authority originally demolish the building, however, local associations and representatives of the Landmarks Preservation Commission braced against it and obtained that the building was declared a National Monument. The new plans provide that the building is completely restored. To restore the state to the turn of the century, both facade shall be rehabilitated and a new roof can be used. The lower floors are however converted to the inputs of the Transit Center.
