Corcelles-les-Arts

Corcelles -les -Arts is a French municipality with 455 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Côte- d'Or in the Burgundy region.

Geography

The municipality is located eight kilometers from Beaune, 47 kilometers from Dijon. Neighboring municipalities are Tailly, Meursault, Puligny -Montrachet and Ébaty in the department of Côte -d'Or and Chaudenay and Demigny in the department of Saône -et -Loire.

History

The place dates back to the Aedui, who settled in the region before the conquest by the Romans. North of the village a villa from the Gallo -Roman period has been found. The place was built mainly in the 12th and 13th centuries further south around two country houses. In the town there is a castle that was the seat of various men from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution. The place was always dominated by agriculture and especially the viticulture. Especially the Gamay grape variety was to infestation by psyllids cause of the prosperity of the village. Towards the middle of the 19th century an area of ​​260 hectares was for wine growing, accounting for almost half of the total area of ​​the municipality. The construction of a railway line in 1850, the distribution of the wine in the cities was much easier. After a Reblauskrise new varieties had to be planted. After the 2nd World War, the wine-growing area declined steadily, today only small areas are still preserved.
