Cormac Breslin

Cormac Breslin (Irish Cormac Ua Breisleáin, * April 25, 1902, † 23 January 1978) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician and longtime chairman ( Ceann Comhairle ) of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish Parliament.

Biography

Breslin, who was originally a merchant and commercial agent, his political career began when he was first elected in 1937 as the Fianna Fáil candidate for deputies in Dáil Éireann. There he represented for 40 years until 1977, the interests of constituencies in County Donegal and initially from Donegal West, then from 1961 of Donegal South - West, and finally from 1969 by Donegal - Leitrim. Between 1951 and 1954 he held the position of Leas - Cheann Comhairle, so was Deputy Chairman of Dáil Éireann.

Following the resignation of Parliament President Patrick Hogan, he was elected then on 14 July 1967 to his successor as Chairman ( Ceann Comhairle ) of Dáil Éireann. Breslin, who has held this office until March 14, 1973, it was replaced by Seán Treacy, abandoned in 1977 for reelection to the Dáil Éireann.
