Cornelius Comegys Jadwin

Cornelius Comegys Jadwin ( born March 27, 1835 in Carbondale, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, † August 17, 1913 in Honesdale, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Cornelius Jadwin attended the common schools and taught after four years even as a teacher. He studied civil engineering and pharmacy. Between 1857 and 1861 he worked as a civil engineer and mining. Then he went into the chemist shop in Honesdale. For nine years he sat in the Education Committee of his native county, of which he was three years president of that body. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. In June 1880 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in part in Chicago, was nominated for the James A. Garfield as a presidential candidate.

In the congressional elections of 1880 Jadwin was in the 15th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edward Overton on March 4, 1881. In 1882 he was not re-elected as an independent candidate. Therefore, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1883. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Cornelius Jadwin operated again as a pharmacist. He died on August 17, 1913 in Honesdale, where he was also buried.
