Cornet (military rank)

Cornet is derived from the French cornette and was in the 17th and 18th centuries, the rank name for the youngest officer in the cavalry (also often standards Junker ).

He corresponded to the ensign in other branches of service or the Junker piece of artillery.

Cornet in other armed forces

Cornet (English Cornet ) was originally in the British armed forces, the lowest officer rank of cavalry. The rank was abolished in 1871 and would be comparable to today's lieutenant (OF -1). Only in the Guard Cavalry Regiment Blues and Royals and with the Hussars of Her Majesty, the Queen's Royal Hussars, the rank is traditionally still used today.
