Çorovoda ( Albanian: Çorovodë ) is a city in southern Albania with about 4000 inhabitants ( 2011). It is the capital of the circle Skrapar. The name comes from the Bulgarian ( Черна вода ), meaning black water.

Location and transport

The city is located in the secluded southern Albanian mountains in the valley of Osum at the mouth of Çorovoda River.

Çorovoda is located off of major transport routes. The only paved road connects the town with 50 kilometers away in the north of Berat. The unpaved road to Përmet is today the only mobile route through the mountains from the Osum - valley. Some dirt roads lead out of the city to the surrounding villages.

Tourism

The immediate area of the city offers several attractions for active holidaymakers.

The Osum flows from the southeast coming several a total of almost 15 km long canyon with some 100 meter high rock walls that end in last offshoot in Çorovoda. The canyons can be traveled with kayaks and inflatable boats.
