Corrado de Concini

Corrado de Concini ( born July 28, 1949 in Rome ) is an Italian mathematician.

De Concini acquired 1971 the mathematics degree at the University of Rome in 1975 and his doctorate at the University of Warwick to George Lusztig (The mod -2 Cohomology of the Orthogonal Groups over a Finite Field). From 1975 he was a lecturer ( professore Incaricato ) at the University of Salerno and from 1976 at the University of Pisa, where he was an associate professor. In 1981 he went to the University of Rome, where he was professor of higher algebra from 1983. 1988 to 1996 he was professor at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and in 1996 professor at the University of Rome (La Sapienza ). He has been a visiting scientist at Brandeis University, the Mittag-Leffler Institute (1981 ), at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (1982 ), Harvard University ( 1987), MIT (1989 ), the University of Paris VI, the IHES (1992, 1996), the Ecole Normale Superieure (2004, Lagrange Michelet Chair ) and at MSRI (2000, 2002).

2003 to 2007 he was president of the Italian National Institute of Advanced Mathematics ( Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica, INdAM ).

De Concini deals with algebraic geometry, quantum groups, invariant theory and mathematical physics.

In 1986 he was invited speaker at the ICM, Berkeley ( Equivariant embeddings of homogeneous spaces ). In 1992 he gave a plenary lecture at the first European Congress of Mathematicians in Paris ( Representations of quantum groups at roots of 1). In 1986, he received the Caccioppoli price. Since 1993 he is a corresponding full and since 2009 a member of the Accademia dei Lincei, the Accademia Italiana delle since 2010 Scienze detta dei XL (whose math gold medal he won in 1990 ) and since 2005 a corresponding member of the Istituto Lombardo.
