Corroios is a Portuguese parish ( freguesia ) with 47 657 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011). It belongs to the city Seixal and is therefore at the Lisbon opposite, southern shore of the estuary of the Tagus ( Margem Sul do Tejo ). The municipal area is 17.1 km ².

History

Nuno Álvares Pereira was the area in 1385 and settled here in 1403, inter alia, build a tide mill. Fischer had already settled here. In the 14th century Corroios was a separate municipality. After the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the following Miguelistenkrieg the circle of Seixal created in 1836, and was incorporated into the municipality Corroios Amora. Only in 1976 it was a separate municipality again. 1993 Corroios was raised to the small town ( Vila ).

Culture and sights

Worth seeing is the 1403 built Moinho de Maré de Corroios, a tidal mill in 1755 severely damaged during the earthquake of Lisbon, but was rebuilt in 1980.

The Quinta do Rouxinol the excavation of a Roman pottery kiln can be seen.

Since 1996, takes place every year with the Festival de Música Moderna de Corroios held a competition and festival for young rock bands.

Traffic

Corroios lies with its own railway station on the railway line Linha do Sul. The local trains of FERTAGUS stop here. It is also the starting point of two tram lines of the Metro Sul do Tejo.

The village lies on the here developed for multi-lane road N10 national road that runs parallel to the A2 motorway here, the nearest driveway Almada is.
