Costa Calma is a place on the Canary Island Fuerteventura, Spain. It lies at the beginning of the Jandia peninsula, which represents the southern part of Fuerteventura, and heard as Morro Jable and Solana Matorral to the municipality slut. Costa Calma has 5,531 inhabitants ( 2011).

Geography

Costa Calma is a predominantly touristic place, which was built directly into the outgoing 1970s along a golden beach. One of the first hotels were added to restaurants and shops, so that a veritable village was established. The whole place is overall pretty hilly. The various parts of Costa Calma are separated by a green zone that runs lengthwise through the whole place. This park is irrigated with treated wastewater of the hotels and even during the day ideal for a relaxing stroll suitable. The flora of the area is otherwise extremely sparse.

The first hotels of Costa Calma were all of low design, so that in many places resulting rise hotels were not available for mass tourism here. The harmoniously integrated into the landscape flat buildings were expanded, however, in the years 2003 and 2004 through a variety of large-scale hotels, so that there has been a change to the detriment of earlier aesthetic impression here. Due to the length of the resort of Costa Calma has not a true center, but several shopping centers with bars and shops are center for the surrounding hotels and apartments.

General

There are mainly German tourists in Costa Calma encountered. There are many guided by Germans cafes and small shops and the entertainment are mainly German and less English. The hotel is directly on Costa Calma, in a sheltered bay sandy beach is about 1.5 km long and brings especially families with children benefits, because in the most calm water, even small children can swim.

Attractions

One of the attractions is the beach dar. In Costa Calma Playa de Sotavento, which is about 30 kilometers stretches south to the tip of the island begins. To the north, the beach is, however, limited by black rocks, which also extend into the sea. In Costa Calma there is the largest forest of the island, which consists mainly of palm trees and other, adapted to the dry climate of Fuerteventura plants. This forest lives but only thanks to the artificial irrigation, which receives each larger plant by drip irrigation. Used treated wastewater from the treatment plant. Also interesting is the nearby Oasis Park with a cactus garden, tropical plants, African animals and various shows with animals.

The winds are influenced by its location on the east coast mostly offshore, thus there is less strong waves, hence the name (calm coast). Contrary to what the name suggests, the east coast of the Jandia peninsula is known for its strong winds, so here championships are held regularly in windsurfing.
