Coteaux de Pierrevert AOC

Coteaux de pierrevert is a wine region in the northern part of the wine-growing region of Provence. This area of ​​origin, which since 1 July 1998 has the status of a Appellation d' Origine ( AOC short ), is named after the town of pierrevert. The vineyards extend north of the Verdon River around the city of Manosque over 11 municipalities of the department of Alpes- de -Haute -Provence. The vineyards cover about 450 hectares and are among the highest in France. The average crop is 24,000 hectoliters / year. In the year 2005 15.955 hectoliters of wine were produced on 338 hectares of declared area.

Wine and varietal

The red wine, which accounts for 60 % of the introduced wines from the main vine Grenache and Syrah ( the proportion of the first two varieties is since 2001 at least 70 % with a single main variety has to be included at least 30% ) was prepared. In addition, the secondary varieties Carignan, Cinsault and Mourvèdre are to a maximum 30 % allowed. The red wines are usually garnet, not too heavy, fruity and fragrant and have due to the altitude of a strong acid.

For the rosé, which accounts for 30 % of the total harvest, the Rebsortenmix Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault applies.

The white wine (10 % of the harvest ) contains the main varieties Grenache Blanc, Vermentino (the first two varieties have as of 2006 have a combined market share of at least 50 %), Ugni Blanc, Clairette Blanche, Roussanne, Marsanne and Piquepoul Blanc. The white wine must consist of at least two varieties. The proportion of a single grape variety may not exceed 70%.

The income limit is generally at 50 hectoliters / hectare. The wines must have a minimum alcohol content of 11 percent by volume.
