Coubon

Coubon is a commune with 3071 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Haute- Loire in the Auvergne region; it belongs to Arrondissement Le Puy -en -Velay and the canton of Le Puy -en -Velay -Sud -Est.

Geography

Coubon located south of Le Puy -en -Velay to a bridge over the upper reaches of the Loire. Southeast of the village is the Bois de Paron. On the northern boundary of the municipality of the river Gagne joins the Loire.

History

As early as prehistoric times, the region was inhabited by people. Due to the geographical and climatic conditions, the area was suitable particularly well suited for human habitation. The oldest human traces found are around 8000 years old tools. In addition, a 3,000 to 4,000 year-old tomb was discovered. From the Roman period, numerous discoveries have been preserved. The Naming of Coubon is not released. In 1090 the site was mentioned as Cobone. At this time Coubon was a strategically important location, since the important road from Le Puy to Avignon crossed the Loire. Numerous other roads ran through Coubon. The first mention of a bridge dates back to 1290th After a long time served a ferry to cross the river. 1845 a suspension bridge was opened, which was destroyed by a flood in 1866, however. The new bridge dating back to 1875 was replaced in 1928 by a bridge suitable for automobiles. This was destroyed in 1980 by a flood. The current bridge was inaugurated in 1984. 1912 Coubon was connected to the railway network.
