Count of Vienne

The county of Vienne, with the capital Vienne on the Rhône, comprised in the 10th century most of the territory between Lyon and the Alps main ridge; it was given to the Archbishop of Vienne in 1030, of which two are new fief seceded: Albon in the south ( the later Dauphiné ) and Maurienne in the north ( the later Savoy). Albon received Guigues I. The old man went to Maurienne Humbert I. with white hands ( albimanus / Biancamano ).

It remained a county Vienne smaller in size. This county was in 1085 to 1240 in the hands of the Counts of Mâcon, until the last of the family, the Countess Alix, Vienne and Macon sold.

After the death of her husband in 1239 Mâcon Alix sold to the French crown, Vienne 1240 her aunt Beatrix

  • Hugo Pagny, son of Beatrix, Lord of Pymont and St. George, Vienne in 1250 sold to the Archbishop of Vienne; yet he and his descendants call themselves Counts of Vienne
  • Wilhelm, Count of Vienne, Lord of St. George, ∞ Alice de Chalon- Arlai, daughter of Johann I Prince of Orange 1393-1418, and Marie, Princess of Orange 1393-1417;
  • Margaret, their daughter, ∞ Rudolf V. of Zahringen Margrave of Hachberg
