Counts of Blois

The county of Blois was in the early Middle Ages, one of the main territories of France.

Robert the Brave sat in Blois - as in the other major cities on the Loire - a viscount a, inherited the land but then ( as a county) to his son, the Viscount of Tours, who became the founder of the house of Blois.

His son Theobald I. seized 956/960 of the County and the County of Chartres Châteaudun. In the next generation for a short time the county Beauvais and the County of Dreux came to 1019/25 the county of Troyes and the County of Meaux, which were then combined into Champagne later, as well as the County Sancerre.

1152 fell on a partition of an estate, the Champagne to the older line. The younger line with the County of Blois died out in 1231, the county passed indirectly in 1241 to the House of Châtillon, which she sold in 1391 to the Duke of Orléans.
