Classification

It is simultaneously an autobiographical story and a literary testimony of the author's employment with the heroism and the loneliness that always accompanied the flyer in the pioneer days of aviation. One must in fact hold the circumstances of these beginnings in mind: Man is alone delivered unruly, unreliable machines, a plaything of the elements, which often played crazy and whose behavior he lack of radio barely knew. He flew over inhospitable areas with maps in which the white spots were still evident. Any mishap could mean death by an unsuccessful emergency landing or at the hands of hostile Bedouin tribes.

In the novel, you already recognize the typical Saint- Exupéry poetic and metaphorical style which was already apparent in The Aviator and the world should be known by the Little Prince.
