Court of the Lord Lyon

The Court of the Lord Lyon, also briefly Lyon Court, is based in Edinburgh responsible for Scotland State Emblems register ( Heraldic Authority). In addition, clans are recognized and registered by the Lyon Court. For heraldic matters in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but also in the Commonwealth is responsible the College of Arms in London.

Chairman of the Lyon Courts is the Lord Lyon King of Arms. Currently, this feature by David Sellar is ingested. Another permanent employees is the Lyon Clerk and Keeper of the Records. Both are up to six heralds and Pursuivanten ( Herald - agents ) in its administration.

The office of Lyon King of Arms was first mentioned by a certificate of appointment of King Robert Bruce in 1318. Since 1672 there is a Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland.
