In the male pleopods are degenerated or disappeared completely. Only the first two Pleopodenpaare are regularly obtained as gonopods: The first pair is tubular, the second usually filiform and located in the tube of the first, probably by a piston - pump principle. The first pair of legs of the hull is formed into large claws, the eyes are on stalks. Crabs can remarkably quickly move sideways ( " crab ").
