Crosby by-election, 1981

Tarquin Fin - tim -lin -bin- whin - bim -lim -bus -stop- F'tang - F'tang - Olé - Biscuitbarrel ( b. 1959 as John Desmond Lewis ) is a British politician, who in 1981 at the by-election in the constituency Crosby took in the English county of Merseyside. The unusual name of the candidate is based on a sketch by the British comedy troupe Monty Python.

After the Conservative MP Sir Graham Page died on 1 October 1981, a by-election in his constituency was necessary. One of the candidates for the vacant parliamentary seat was John Desmond Lewis, a student at St John 's College, Cambridge, who had founded the Cambridge University Raving Loony Society ( CURLS ). Lewis had officially requested a name change before the High Court of Justice and joined since then under the name of Tarquin Fin - tim -lin -bin- whin - bim -lim -bus -stop- F'tang - F'tang - Olé - Biscuitbarrel on. This fantasy name comes from an episode of the BBC television series Monty Python's Flying Circus.
