Crotalus stejnegeri

The long-tailed rattlesnake (Crotalus stejnegeri ) is a species of rattlesnakes (Crotalus ), their distribution is limited to a very small region in the Mexican Sierra Madre Occidental in the southwest of Durango and Sinaloa to the south-east. The science known to date only twelve individuals of this species.

Features

The long-tailed rattlesnake is a medium-sized rattlesnake with an average body length of about 60 to 70 centimeters. The name derives from the relatively long tail, which carries a very small tail rattle.

The typical basic color is light brown to gray, the dorsal pattern consists of a series of dark spots with a black border. More dark spots are located on the head and face of the animal.

Distribution and habitat

The range of the snake is limited to a very small region in the Mexican Sierra Madre Occidental in the southwestern and southeastern Sinaloa Durango.

The habitat of the snake is dominated by pine-oak forests and some tropical rain forests at altitudes of 500-1200 meters.
