Crotyl alcohol ( according to IUPAC Nomenclature of trans-2 - butenol ) is an unsaturated alcohol with a trans -substituted carbon-carbon double bond. The isomeric cis compound has little meaning. The compound is a colorless liquid with an unpleasant odor. The presentation is by the reduction of crotonaldehyde.
