Cryoscopic constant

The cryoscopic constant is a measure of physical chemistry. It indicates to what temperature ( in Kelvin), the melting point of a solution relative to that of the pure solvent decreases ( melting point or freezing point) when 1 mol of a nonvolatile substance in 1 kg of the pure solvent dissolves.

About this constant can for example be determine the molar mass of a soluble substance from the freezing point depression according to Beckmann.

The value of the constant for water is 1.853 K · kg / mol.
