ÄŒSD Class E 499.3

The E 499.3 series (from 1988: 163 series ) is an electric locomotive of the former Czechoslovak State Railways ( ČSD ) for the 3 kV DC system in the north and east of the former Czechoslovakia.

History

The locomotives were manufactured with 60 locomotives from 1984 by Škoda in Plzeň in three model series. Structurally based machine on the dual-system locomotives ES 499.1 (now 363 series ), but the E were 499.3 only the equipment for DC operation.

The locomotives of the series from 1991 were delivered with a modified gear ratio as the class 162 for a top speed of 140 km / hr. Built in 1992, the series was in turn designed for only 120 km / h to have for use in freight transport increased pulling power. Because of financial problems, this series was not initially removed so 9 locomotives in 1995 were sold to the railway company Ferrovie Nord Milano Lombardy Esercizio ( FNME ). 40 locomotives acquired later the Czech Railways ČD, the remaining locomotives arrived in 1995 to Slovak ZSR (now ZSSK ).

The nine delivered to Italy locomotives were purchased in 2010 by the Czech railway company RegioJet and came on this path back to the Czech Republic. The yellow- painted locomotives are numbered 162112-120.

Both in the ČD, as in the ZSR was later in a subset of 162 exchange of the bogies with those of the two-system locomotive 363 to raise the top speed to 140 km / h with this. The converted 162 were re-drawn in the 163 series.

Use

The locomotives are preferably in regional traffic, but also express trains are used. The domain of the 140 km / h Range 162 is mainly the transport of intercity and express trains on the routes Praha- Decin and Praha- Ostrava.

The nine locomotives from RegioJet run on the route Prague - Havířov along with former Austrian Eurofima wagon.
