Culprit (band)

Culprit is an American heavy metal band from Seattle.

History

In 1979, the two heavy metal bands Orpheus and amethyst play a concert at a high school. Since both bands could achieve any significant success founded the Orpheus members John DeVol (guitar), Scott Earl (bass) and Bud Burill (drums ) with the Amethyst singer Jeff L' Heureux and guitarist Kjartan Kristoffersen in 1982, the band Culprit. The band's name is the English word for defendant.

Still in its first year, the band released two demos and contributed a song for the U.S. Metal Sampler, Vol 2 at. Finally, the band of Shrapnel Records was signed. In the fall of 1983, the debut album Guilty as Charged was published, which musically offers a mix of the Hard Rock in the 1970s and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The German magazine Rock Hard honors Guilty as Charged "Album of the Month" and was ranked 476 in a list drawn up by the Rock Hard list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The success surprised the band and in particular singer Jeff L'Heureux fought in the subsequent period with drug problems. After Scott Earl and Kjartan Kristoffersen the band towards TKO Culprit left broke apart. In 1985, the band reformed briefly and released another demo. Twelve years later, the band played a concert in Seattle over 4,000 spectators. As singer Jeff L'Heureux was briefly jailed before Scott took over Earl singing. In the following years the band played occasional concerts.

In 2005, the compilation Innocent 'Til Proven Guilty appeared. Five years later there was the official reunification of Culprit with new singer Steve Nations and guitarist Tim Kleinman.
