The crimp Manucodia ( Manucodia comrii ), also known as crimping Paradise Crow, is a large, stocky bird of paradise from the kind of Manukoden or Paradise crows. It is endemic to the D' Entrecasteaux Islands, the Trobriand islands east of Papua New Guinea. Was named the 1876 Art of Philip Sclater Lutley by Dr. Peter Comrie, who discovered it in 1874 on the volcanic island Fergusson.

Description

The crimp Manucodia is one of the largest and heaviest birds of paradise. It reaches a length of about 43 cm. The plumage is generally shiny purple, black and green. Neck and upper breast are characterized by a crinkled yellowish- green plumage. The Kopfbefiederung is also crimped. The control springs are wound. The iris is bright red. The females are smaller than males.

Occurrence and food

The crimp Manucodia lives in the rainforests of the D' Entrecasteaux Islands and the Trobriand Islands, particularly on Goodenough and Fergusson. They feed mainly on fruits.
