The Curonian language ( Latvian Kuršu valoda; lithuanian Kuršių kalba ) is one of the Indo-European languages , more specifically to the Baltic languages . It was originally spoken in Kurland (western Latvia) and in the northern East Prussia.

It is not clear whether Curonian belongs to the West or to the East Baltic group of the Baltic languages , after a somewhat controversial opinion it was formerly a western Baltic language, which through the influence East Baltic languages moved to the East Baltic type later.

Not to confuse you Curonian language with the Nehrungskurischen. The actual Curonian language is often referred to for the purpose of demarcation to Nehrungskurisch as Altkurisch.
