Augsburger Panther (DEL, 1936 )

The Curt - Frenzel -Stadion is an ice stadium in Augsburg, where the ice hockey club Augsburger Panther plays its home games. The stadium is often abbreviated only called by the fans CFS. The namesake Curt Frenzel was publisher of the Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, longtime chairman of the Augsburg Eislaufverein and promoter of ice hockey in Augsburg.

Description

Operator of the ice rink is the city of Augsburg. The stadium has long been the only stadium of professional ice hockey in Germany, which was not closed. Since the 2013/14 season, the DEL - Curt - Frenzel -Stadion is closed according to the requirements to the hall. In addition to the arena, there is a second, non- covered ice surface, but can not be used in the course of the renovation work. The plan is, however, also this path to roof until 2016. Both ice rinks are 60 × 30 feet tall.

History

1878 was the construction of swimming through the ice rinks skating club Augsburger EV in the so -called " slip gap". As of 1936, the rinks were expanded to a natural ice rink by the city of Augsburg and finally opened on January 5, 1938. The spectator stands were at that time comprised earthworks, whose stand-up stages were secured by wooden planks and offered up to 3,000 spectators.

During the Second World War, the stadium was almost completely destroyed by bombs, so the game had to be stopped operating in 1944. In 1945 the re- commissioning by the HC Augsburg, the HCA "Yellow Tiger". First, the games were held in nor out. In 1947, the stadium on the grinding trench back into operation, now with wooden bands. The venue was still operated with natural ice, its durability for a complete game represented a weather- related risk.

In 1971 the roof of a skating rink 1 was completed after long discussions. Patron was the Augsburg publisher Curt Frenzel, after the stadium was finally named in 1971. The prescribed canopy allowed the continuation of gaming operations in the 1st Bundesliga. In 1978, Curt - Frenzel stadium was renovated, created in 1998 modern VIP rooms, so then a total of 7,774 spectators, including 1,574 on the seat, 6,036 to standing room and 164 in VIP boxes, found a place in the stadium.

Reconstruction and modernization

The Curt - Frenzel stadium was originally to be completely closed by 2012 converted into a hall. The three open sides of the building to be closed by means of a steel structure. After a feasibility study, the exact conversion details are set, examined the building on invisible from the outside damage as well as the static tested. Already in 2008, the cabin wing was modernized. Total reconstruction costs were estimated at approximately 15 million euros.

In October 2010, it turned out after the commissioning of the new tribunes, that the view of the audience was very limited on the ice. The grandstand was torn down and rebuilt steeper thereby incurring additional costs of 2.7 million euros.

In September 2013, the reconstruction of the stadium was completed to a hall after a change of responsible architectural firms. In addition to the structural defects also ensured the participation of the City Council to faulty planning changes and other irregularities for local political unrest.

Internationals

On 18 December 1964, match between Germany and Switzerland took place during the first round of the Qualification to the A World Championship for Men. The final score was 2:8 ( 1:2,0:2,1:4 ). Until 1999, there more matches of the national team in the Curt - Frenzel stadium took place, including teams from the United States, Czechoslovakia, and Austria and Switzerland.

From December 27th 1980 to January 2nd 1981 Augsburg was one of the venues for the fifth U20 World Cup.

Spectator capacity

At the opening of the stadium took 8,300 spectators, and later the capacity for safety reasons has been reduced to about 7,000 places. Since the general renovation in 1978 fit 7,774 spectators in the Curt - Frenzel -Stadion, of which 1,562 to 6,172 seats and standing room on.
