Curt Hansen (chess player)

Curt Hansen ( born September 18, 1964 in Tønder ) is a Danish chess player.

In 1981 he was European Junior Champion U20 in Groningen, a year later he received the title of International Master. In 1984 he became junior world champion U20. Since 1985 he has been an International Grandmaster of the FIDE. The six-time Danish ( 1983-85, 1994, 1998 and 2000) and two-time Nordic (1983 and 1995) champions played in five Chess Olympiads on top board for Denmark (1984, 1988, 1990, 1996 and 2000), scoring 38.5 points from 62 games. Hansen is also active in correspondence chess. Here he is entitled Correspondence Chess Grandmaster, he was awarded for his performance in Korning Memorial and was a two-time Danish champion with the team Tønder. In Germany he played in the chess Bundesliga for the SG Porz, with whom he was in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2004 German team champion.

Since 1986, he writes a daily column in the Jyllands-Posten. From 1986 to 2000 he had JydskeVestkysten a Sunday column in the southern Danish newspaper. He is a specialist in the Scandinavian defense, on which he has published in 2002 a standard work in the form of a CD (ISBN 3-935602 -43- X).

His current Elo rating is 2619 (as of March 2012). He would by Peter Heine Nielsen second strongest chess player in the Danish ranking, which he had led until 2003. However, it is run as inactive because he has not played a game of chess -evaluated more since the Bundesliga season 2006/ 07.
