Cushamen

Cushamen is the capital of the department of Cushamen in Chubut province in southern Argentina. In the classification of municipalities in the province of Chubut Cushamen is classified as a rural community ( Comuna Rural). It is located on the Rutas Provinciates 4 and 34, about 70 km from El Maitén.

Climate

In Cushamen prevails a continental climate with short, relatively hot summers and cold winters. A salient feature of the climate are frequent, moderate to strong westerly winds over long periods of the year. They contribute to the erosion of the soil, which is protected only by a sparse vegetation. The annual rainfall is 150 mm and the mean annual temperature is specified with 8 degrees Celsius.

History

Cushamen means in the language of the Mapuche place of solitude. The place was founded by Miguel Ñancuche Nahuelquir.

Economy

The agricultural structure consists mainly of small estates, including those of descendants of the Mapuche, who are dedicated to the livestock in the form of a subsistence economy.

Tourism and Attractions

The tourism opportunities are exhausted in the visit to the local Museo Regional e Indigenista kept the historical documents and valuable examples of regional arts and crafts. The area is excellent for sport fishing offers and to visit the 60- km away in El Saltillo waterfall at Río Chico, which has a total drop of 20 meters.
