The Brown purple nutsedge ( Cyperus fuscus ) is a species of the family of the Sedge family ( Cyperaceae ).

Description

The Brown nutsedge growth reaches heights of 3 to a maximum of 25, rarely up to 40 cm, which is a kleinwüchsiges sour grass. This annual plant is no spurs, but small clumps. The smooth stems are sharply triangular. Up to four (rarely up to 5) mm wide leaves are usually as long as the stem.

The simple or compound inflorescence is a three-to eight-rayed Spirre. The black - red, rarely yellow- green spikelets 3-10 mm long. There are three scars present. The fruit is yellow-brown with a length of about 1 mm and a width of 0.5 mm sharp triangular with attached spike tip.

Location and distribution

The Brown nutsedge grows on river banks, pond soils and drainage ditches. They germinate after summer decreasing water level on muddy soil or humus-rich sands. There, closes the plant, often dwarf, the life cycle before with rising water levels in the fall of the growth sites are flooded. During the winter they survived as seeds ( Therophyt ). The dwarf rush Pond soil associations in which the species grows, are stable at these locations by the seasonally fluctuating water levels.

At these locations, the species is distributed throughout Germany, although not equally common. Regular deposits consist mainly due to the currents.
