Cyprichromini

Cyprichromis leptosoma " Kitumba " with prestretched mouth.

The Cyprichromini, also called the German Kärpflingscichliden, are a tribe of cichlids ( Cichlidae ). The seven types of Cyprichromini live in endemic Lake Tanganyika in East Africa. The monophyly has been proven by various morphological features and examination of DNA sequences. All Kärpflingscichliden live close to the rocky coast in large schools in open water and feed on plankton. All Kärpflingscichliden are mouth brooders.

Features

The Cyprichromini are small cichlids with elongated, narrow body and lengths of 10 and 14 cm. The mouth is terminal and strong vorstreckbar ( protaktil ). The coloration of the fish is usually brownish, in many cases with black or bright yellow or blue markings on the long dorsal fin, the anal and caudal fin and vertical bands in these colors on the body sides.
