Reviews

  • Filmdienst 1/1991: Complex, designed in sumptuous images remake of the eponymous romantic play by Edmond Rostand, which adheres closely to the original, all dialogues presents in verse and the story combines with elements of adventure and action film. Gérard Depardieu shines in the title role of the unfortunate lover draufgängerischem between heroism and tender poetry.
  • Epd Film 1/1991: The film is even better than the play. The trick is that the rhymed Alexandrine of Versstückes are largely unchanged, but the original by Jean Claude Carrière and Rappeneau was vigorously worked, occasionally supplemented or reduced, possibly modernized, made short film justice.
