D battery

Mono, mono cell, and D are common names for a standardized size of batteries and accumulators. It is cylindrical round cells with a diameter from 32.3 to 34.2 mm and a height of 59.5 to 61.5 mm (according to IEC standard). This results in a volume of about 49 to 56 cm ³ yields. D-cells are produced with different electrochemical systems, which can be clearly different from nominal voltage, capacity and resilience. Depending on the system further, often vendor-specific names for non-rechargeable and rechargeable single cells are used.

Mono cells were used primarily in larger, portable electrical devices with relatively high energy requirements. Examples are toys, flashlights, portable tape recorders, transistor radios and portable device combinations (especially radio recorders with relatively high volume, so-called "Ghetto Blaster "). Due to the increased efficiency of the alkaline manganese cells and the lower power requirements of recent devices, the smaller and lighter baby cells are used often today.
