DÄ…b, Katowice

Dąb ( German Domb ) is the oldest part of the present city of Katowice. It is located three kilometers southwest of the Katowice city center.

History

The first mention of Domb comes from the March 19, 1299 from Beuthener Duke Casimir II in 1480 it was mentioned by the Polish historian Dlugosz January in his work " Księga uposażeń ". According to him, gave Duke Casimir II in 1300, the village Domb Bożogrobców the Monastery ( Monastery Holy grave ) in Miechów as a donation for the Holy Spirit Hospital in Bytom. The village remained until the 19th century monastery in hand.

1780 coal was discovered in the village and founded the first coal mine Queen Jadwiga. 1823 founded the Scottish engineer John Baildon ( 1772-1846 ) in Domb an ironworks. In 1910 lived in Domb 13,666 inhabitants, of whom 10,318 spoke Silesian, Polish 26, 3237 German. In the First Silesian Uprising in 1919 found Domb small skirmishes take place in the Second 1920 heavy fighting, the Third was there in 1921 one of the bases of the insurgents. They marched out on May 3, 1921 by Domb to Katowice.

On July 15, 1924 was Dąb integrates with Bogucice, Zawodzie Załęże Ligota and Brynów as a district in the city of Katowice.
