DÄ…bie, Greater Poland Voivodeship

Dabie [ dɔmb ʲ ɛ ] ( German Dabie, also Dombie 1940-1945: Eichstädt ( Wartheland ) ) is a town with 2000 inhabitants in Poland. It is situated 18 kilometers southeast of Kolo at Ner and belongs to the powiat Kolski, Greater Poland Voivodeship to.

History

The first mention of the place, which was at that time in possession of the Premonstratensian order, dates from the year 1232. 1423 Dabie received city rights and was a royal city.

1793 Dabie became Prussian and was part of South Prussia. In 1807 the town was in the field of the Duchy of Warsaw and in 1815 it belonged to the Kingdom of Poland. In the 19th century there arose several weaving mills. In 1864, fighting with insurgents took place in the city. During the First World War Dabie was destroyed in 1915 during fighting between German and Russian forces. In 1933 the town received a connection to the railway network, the railway line runs but 3 km east of the city.

1939, the site was occupied during the invasion of Poland by the German Wehrmacht. During the 1945 permanent occupation of the town's name was changed from the German administration in " Eichstädt "; the Jewish synagogue was destroyed.

Before the start of the occupation some 1,100 Jews lived in the city. 1941 a ghetto was set up for the remaining Jews. This was also the selection of traditional from the Lódz Jews, so the exact number of people living there is unknown. In December of the same year, all inhabitants of the ghetto were brought to the nearby Chelmno extermination camp and murdered, particularly in gas vans.

Mid- January 1945 the German occupiers fled before as part of the Vistula-Oder operation unexpectedly fast approaching Red Army that liberated the town on 21 January 1945.

The ruins of the synagogue fell increasingly after 1945; 1961 the building was renovated and converted into living space.
