Dagmar Godowsky

Mercedes Dagmar Godowsky (* November 24, 1897 in Chicago, † February 13, 1975 in New York City ) was an American silent film actress. She was born in Chicago as a child of the Polish composer and pianist Leopold Godowsky and his wife Frederica Saxa.

Silent film actress

Her film career in Hollywood lasted from 1919 to 1926. You played in A Sainted Devil ( 1924) with Rudolph Valentino and The Story Without a Name ( 1924). In the latter she appeared with Tyrone Power, Sr. and Louis Wolheim. Other film appearances they had in Red Lights (1923 ), The Common Law (1923 ), Virtuous Liars (1924 ) and The Price of a Party ( 1924).

Private life

1921 married Godowsky silent film actor Frank Mayo in Tijuana. She named the actress Anna Luther as a contact in a lawsuit against Mayo in 1925. The marriage was annulled due to the fact that Mayo had another woman in August 1928.

1958 published Godowsky a thoroughly honest autobiography entitled First Person Plural. She wrote: I lived only for pleasure and I spoiled my own fun. Where was I running? From splat? Little feet running around the globe. Nothing but circles, and I never once bumped into myself. In the book she named Enrico Caruso, Arthur Rubinstein, Jascha Heifetz, Charles Chaplin, Igor Stravinsky, and Valentino their " great love ". When she was asked about the number of their husbands, they said, two of his own, my friend and some of my friends.

In her later years, she appeared frequently on talk shows in London and New York City.

Death

Godowsky died on 13 February 1975 at the age of 78 years at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. It was your father's birthday. The funeral was held at the Riverside Chapel on Amsterdam Avenue and 76th Street. She was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Westchester, New York. Your Leopold Godowsky junior she survived.
