Dagmar Roth-Behrendt

Dagmar Roth- Behrendt ( born February 21, 1953 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German politician (SPD). She's since July 2009 ( as in the period from 2004 to 2007) Vice President of the European Parliament.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1971 in Friedberg ( Hessen) Dagmar Roth- Behrendt graduated in law at the University of Marburg, which she finished with the first legal state exam in 1977. After the clerkship she laid in 1979 and the second state exam and then worked as a lawyer in Berlin. Later, she has been a lecturer in the Senate Office of the Governing Mayor of Berlin.

Member of Parliament

Dagmar Roth- Behrendt was from 1985 until 1989, the district council in Berlin -Spandau.

Since 1989 she is a member of the European Parliament. There she was 1989-2004 spokeswoman for the PES group for environmental, consumer and health policies and 2004-2007 Vice- President of the European Parliament. From 2007 to 2009 she headed the established by the Conference of Presidents at the European Parliament High Level Group on the reform of the European Parliament.

Dagmar Roth- Behrendt is a member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and substitute member of the Committee on Legal Affairs. In 1997 she was chairman of the committee of inquiry on BSE crisis.

She received on April 23, 2009, the Merit Cross 1st class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
