Dakota City is a city and the county seat of Dakota County in the U.S. state of Nebraska.
History
Was first discovered in the territory of Dakota City in 1804 by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. Founded in Dakota City but only in 1856, after a year earlier, the Dakota County had been created. It was named the city in honor of the Dacotah Indians. On April 5, 1858, the town was officially registered.
Geography
Dakota City is located in northeast Nebraska along the Missouri River, marking the border with Iowa. It has access to U.S. Highways 75 and 77, and the Nebraska State Route 35
Demography
According to census of 2000, Dakota City has 1,821 inhabitants, of whom 931 men and 890 women.
