Dalmally

Dalmally is a small village in the Scottish council area of Argyll and Bute. It is located in the northeast of the sparsely populated region, about 31 kilometers east of Oban and 48 miles south of Fort William on the banks of Orchy. About two kilometers west of Orchy flows into Loch Awe. In the year 1991 400 inhabitants were counted in Dalmally.

Traffic

The village is located just off the A85 which connects with Oban Perth. A crossing of Orchy was already in the 18th century created there with the Dalmally Bridge. The bridge is now sorted in the Scottish lists of monuments in the B category. Since the 19th century Dalmally has its own train station. This is today served by the West Highland Line between Glasgow and Oban.

Attractions

In the vicinity of Dalmally there are two monuments from the highest Scottish monument category A. The Glenorchy Parish Church is located just inside the village on a small island in Orchy. Was at the site of the completed in 1811 Neo-Gothic church architecture at least since the 14th century a church. The west location at the head of Loch Awe ruins of Kilchurn Castle was once a stronghold of the clan Campbell. It was abandoned after a lightning strike in 1760.
