Dámaso Ruiz-Jarabo Colomer

Damaso Ruiz- Jarabo Colomer ( born June 20, 1950 in Madrid, † November 12, 2009 in Luxembourg ) was a Spanish lawyer and Advocate General at the European Court of Justice (ECJ ).

Colomer studied law at the Complutense University of Madrid ( UCM) and received his doctorate there in 1976. As assistant of García de Enterría he taught administrative law at the UCM and was a judge in Ávila, Toledo and Madrid.

Between 1982 and 1987 he held professorships in criminal law at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM ) and the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas and conducted research on European law. In 1987 he became secretary to the ECJ.

1988 to the end of 1990 he was director of the private offices of the President of the Spanish General Council of Justice ( Consejo General del Poder Judicial ). 1992 appointed him to the Spanish Council of Ministers in the case of Ruiz- Mateos for ad hoc judge at the European Court of Human Rights.

Of the Governments of the Member Countries Colomer in 1995 was appointed Advocate General at the European Court of Justice and confirmed in 1997. At the same time, the Spanish General Council of Justice appointed him in 1996 as a judge of the 3rd Chamber of the Spanish Supreme Court.

On 13 February 2007 he advised the judges of the ECJ upheld a complaint by the European Commission against Germany on the VW Law. Ruiz- Jarabo Colomer died during his tenure as Attorney General on November 12, 2009 in Luxembourg. His successor Pedro Cruz Villalón was appointed.
