Damien Jurado
Damien Jurado is an American musician.
Beginning of the 1990s took Damien Jurado his first demo tapes on under his own name. In 1995, he came over Jeremy Enigk, then still singer of Sunny Day Real Estate to a recording contract with Sub Pop Records. Here he published in the following years, two EPs and his debut album " Waters Ave S". The reviews were positive, swamped with praise, he was in 1999 for " Rehearsals for Depature ". However, the album gained little public attention. In September 2000 appeared " Ghost of David ", the much more introverted precipitated as the poplastigen predecessor. In early 2002 appeared the rock record " I Break Chairs", which he published with his musician friends as " Damien Jurado and Gathered in Song." Thus, his contract was fulfilled with Sub Pop and he joined because he felt neglected by the label, the then still very small label Secretly Canadian, where he in 2003 which in turn critically acclaimed "Where Shall you take me? " And two years later, "On my way to absence " published. Was published in 2006 " And now that I'm in your shadow" followed in 2008 and "Caught in the Trees ". End of May 2010 he released his ninth studio album, " Saint Bartlett ". " Maraqopa " with which he managed for the first time made it into the Billboard charts, followed in February 2012.
Between these regular albums EPs, singles, rarities collections appeared again and again, etc., so that Damien Jurado can look back today to more than 30 publications on small and micro- labels.
Over the years he also worked again with friendly musicians, eg with the songwriter Rosie Thomas and until 2003 also worked closely with David Bazan (ex Pedro The Lion ), with whom he in the 90s in several hardcore bands (including Coolidge ) played. From 2002 to 2008, Mr. Fisher was his closest musical partner. From 2006, this was together with cellist Jenna Conrad also an integral part of the band " Damien Jurado ". For his new album " Saint Bartlett " he separated from his band and first worked closely with musician Richard Swift together. 2013 appears the song sung by him " Almost Home " on the MOBY - album " Innocents ".
Especially a lot of praise reap its mostly very dark, sketchy texts that earned him comparisons to Raymond Carver.
The end of 2007 founded Damien Jurado with his brother Drake the band " Hoquiam ". Their first, self-titled album was released in late February 2010 in an edition of 500 copies on St. Ives Records, a sublabel of Secretly Canadian.
