Dampvalley -lès -Colombe is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Dampvalley -lès -Colombe is located at an altitude of 265 m above sea level, about 7 km east of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, a slight increase on the southern flank of the Colombine, at the northern edge of the plateau of the Bois de Noroy.

The area of ​​6.26 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area of ​​the hill country between the basin of Vesoul and the level of Lure. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the valley of the Colombine. The creek flows here with several turns by a 100 m wide flood plain that is 50 to 100 m deep into the surrounding plateau. The steep slopes are traversed in different places of limestone rocks. There are several caves here.

North and south of Columbine Valley, close to high plateaus, which consist of a resistant limestone layer of the middle Jurassic period. On the north side of the valley are the heights of Charmont ( 357 m ) and the Bois de la Craye. To the south lies the agricultural plateau of the French, on the 378 meters, the highest elevation of Dampvalley -lès -Colombe is achieved. The eastern boundary is marked by the Bois de Calmoutier.

Neighboring communities of Dampvalley -lès -Colombe are Montcey in the north, Calmoutier in the east, Noroy -le- Bourg and Colombe- lès- Vesoul in the south and Frotey -lès- Vesoul in the West.

History

The Valley of the Colombine was probably inhabited in prehistoric times. In the Middle Ages Dampvalley belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Montaigu. Towards the end of the Thirty Years War, the town was completely destroyed in 1644 by the troops of Turenne. Together with the Franche -Comté Dampvalley came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Dampvalley -lès -Colombe is a member of the 12 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Grands Bois.

Attractions

The village church was rebuilt in the 19th century. In the south of the village is a pyramid- shaped building, which was built after a cholera epidemic and carries a statue of the Virgin Immaculée (1856 ).

Population

With 109 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Dampvalley -lès -Colombe is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 168 persons were still counted ), was re- recorded a continuous population growth of the mid-1970s until 1990. During this time, the population has doubled. Since then, however, a downward trend can be seen again.

Economy and infrastructure

Dampvalley -lès -Colombe is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns of the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road N19, which runs from Vesoul to Belfort. Further road links exist with Noroy -le- Bourg and Montcey.
