Damüls

Damuels is one marked by the tourism community in the Bregenz district in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg with 332 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2013).

Geography

Damuels is the highest resort between the Bregenz Forest and the Great Walser Valley and is located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Bregenz on 1,428 meters above sea level. The municipality is located in the valley of Argentina Bach, nestled between the mountains of the north Damülser, and Zitterklapfengruppe of Lechquellen mountain and the Glatthorn group at Faschinajoch in the south. 17.7% of the area is forested, 60.0 % of the area Alps.

The municipal area is developed by the well-known ski resort of the same name and also in the summer season, a good infrastructure for walking and mountain tourism. 2006 Damuels got the title "Snow Richest village in the world " award; fall 9.30 meters of new snow per season on average.

There are no other local villages in Damuels.

Neighboring communities

Damuels is one of only two towns in Vorarlberg, which is adjacent to all political districts of the country. Even lying in the district of Bregenz borders Damuels to the city of Dornbirn in Dornbirn district of the same name, laterns in the district of Feldkirch, and Blons Fontanella in the district of Bludenz and the municipalities Mellau and Au in the same district as the Walser community. Thus, there is a common municipal boundary with six other municipalities.

History

In the late Middle Ages ( to 1300) left people from the Swiss canton of Valais their homes because of extreme poverty and sought out new habitats. In Vorarlberg, in western Tyrol and the Grisons this later Walser called emigrants secluded, unwegige and undeveloped valleys were provided (Alpe Uga ) for clearing and settlement. The first mention of Damuels comes from a feudal deed dated May 29, 1313 by the Counts of Montfort. The owners were free farmers on free land, but had to serve the Count if necessary with shield and spear.

Until 1806 Damuels possessed together with Fontanella own court (so-called Supreme Court ). 1390 Damuels came with the reign Feldkirch Austria.

On 1 January 2008, the proportion of the population was non-Austrian citizenship at 8.9 %. The share of births in Austria was 11.1 %.

Policy

The municipal council consists of 9 members. Mayor 's 2010 Stefan Bischof since April. The municipality revenue from taxes and other charges in 2008 amounted to 1.1198 million euros. The debt was 2008 2.840.205 €.

Damülser circular course: Around the Walser settlement

The Damülser round course runs above the tree line and is accessible by the UGA - Express. The UGA - Express is a chair lift which can accommodate up to four people next to each other and can be used for free with the Bregenzerwald Card.

The base station with large parking lot can be approached from the post office Au by bus.

The circuit is well signposted. One can from the mountain station ( 1,800 m) rising from a peak to the next, from Hochblanken ( 2,068 m) over the Ragazer Blanken ( 2,051 m) to the Sünser yoke. A stop is in front or after return from the circuit in one of the many huts with bread ( Austrian: snack) a.

Worth a visit is the mountain church of Damuels with extraordinary frescoes from 1484, which is the Bible of the Poor. You can either ride comfortably by cable car to the valley, or makes walking on the way back ( about two hours for slow walker), you arrive at the valley station ( 1,430 m) out.

Economy and infrastructure

At the site there were in 2003 34 companies in the industrial sector with 250 employees and 8 apprentices. Taxable wage -employed, there were 153 Tourism is by far the most important economic sector. Through investments in recent years are about 2000 beds for visitors. In the tourism year 2008/2009 there were a total of 214 001 nights ( winter: 152 794, summer: 61 207 ). Damuels making it the nächtigungsstärkste place of the Bregenz Forest.

In 2009, the connection to the ski resort Mellau was completed by the construction of the summit lift, which resulted in a significant augmentation of the ski resort. Today, the combined lifts Damuels -Mellau work together ( ski Damuels and Mellau ) and the cable cars Faschina ( ski - Faschina Fontanella ), and form the ski resort Faschina - Damuels -Mellau. Through this merger, the ski area has 109 km of slopes. The last stage of the ski area, the 6-seater chairlift Ragaz was built in the summer of 2010, which went into operation on December 18, 2010.
