Dan Andersson

Daniel " Dan " Andersson ( born April 6, 1888 in Skattlösberg ( Dalarna ), † September 16, 1920 in Stockholm) was a Swedish poet and lyricist workers.

Life

Andersson grew up as the son of a village schoolmaster on in great poverty. He has worked in several occupations, including as a servant and forest workers. Besides Andersson visited the folk high school and later became a teacher himself. As such, he also worked at the newspaper Ny Tid in Stockholm.

Since 1913, Andersson worked as a freelance writer. His novels have made him one of the most important poets working in Sweden. In addition, it dealt with religious questions again and again. He was also known for his translations of the works of Charles Baudelaire and Rudyard Kipling.

A variety of resulting in his short lifetime poems have been set to music. Today they belong to the general Swedish songs treasure but are also available as recordings of several known vocal artists before.

In September 1920 Andersson traveled to Stockholm, where he ( Social Democrat ) was hoping for a job at the newspaper Social - Democrats. He stayed at Hotel Hellman in the room with the number 11 in the Bryggaregatan. Unfortunately, the hotel staff had previously wanted to liberate the room by spraying with hydrogen cyanide from insects, and then contrary to the provisions do not adequately ventilated room. Andersson poisoned himself fatally on the night of September 16 and died three clock in the afternoon at the age of only 32 years. Together with Andersson died the insurance inspector Elliot Eriksson from Bollnäs due to the same poisoning.
