Dan Barry (cartoonist)

Daniel Dan Barry ( born July 11, 1923 in Long Branch, New Jersey; † 25 January 1997) was an American comic book artist.

Life and work

Barry, elder brother of the comic artist Sy Barry, began his career as a cartoonist in 1940, after he had graduated from the Textile High School and the American Artists School. After that he worked as a staff artist at Otto Binder. After he was drafted in 1943 for the Air Force, Barry created for a military journal comic Bombrack. After completing his military service, he drew in the years 1947 and 1948, the daily strip Tarzan. In 1951, King Features Syndicate commissioned him to revive the daily strip Flash Gordon. Barry, who was assisted in his work on Flash Gordon, among others, Frank Frazetta and Al Williamson, held this strip until the 1990s.
